Why do we care? What does it mean?
The time to change is now.
At RGD we aspire to do the best we can to contribute to a fairer, less polluted world, within the planetary boundaries. Therefore, we have embarked on a transformative journey to achieve more sustainability in drug discovery. Here you can find information about how we use our competence for initiatives and collaborations to deliver solutions with less harmful impact on the environment, in alignment with our mission – better health for people and planet.
RGD takes action for the climate and sustainable development
“What gets measured, gets managed”
In collaboration with the climate consultancy firm 2050, through the use of standardized approaches and globally accepted principles, RG Discovery has generated a Greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory that represents a fair account of its emissions.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warned that global warming must not exceed 1.5°C to avoid severe and irreversible impacts of climate change. To achieve this, GHG emissions must halve by 2030 – and drop to net-zero by 2050. Even small and medium-sized companies such as RG Discovery need to contribute -every sector in every market must transform. RG Discovery is ready to take responsibility.
The Science based target initiative (SBTi) defines and promotes best practice in science-based target setting, for carbon emission reductions and net-zero targets in line with climate science. RG Discovery’s GHG inventory is the basis for setting its goals. RG Discovery commits to reduce scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions 38% by 2030 from a 2021 base year, and to measure and reduce its scope 3 emissions. RG Discovery also commits to reduce scope 1+2+3 emissions 90% by 2045 from a 2021 base year. SBTi approved these targets using a streamlined target validation route exclusive to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Thus, RG Discovery has taken the first steps towards developing a net-zero strategy and is actively working to establish long-term targets that are aligned with the SBTi’s net-zero criteria.
As of September 2026, more than 2,800 companies worldwide have committed to setting emissions reduction targets grounded in climate science through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), contributing to the transition towards a net-zero economy. RG Discovery is proud to be among them.
While climate action remains a key priority, we recognize that sustainability extends beyond reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Responsible businesses also need to address broader environmental and social challenges, including resource efficiency, biodiversity, human rights, decent working conditions and responsible business practices throughout their value chains. These challenges are interconnected, and progress in one area cannot compensate for negative impacts in another.
At RG Discovery, we are committed to integrating sustainability into our business strategy, operations and decision-making. We dedicate financial resources and assign responsibility for sustainability initiatives across our organization, working to drive improvements at the local and global levels. We continuously assess our own operations, value chain and supply chain to identify material impacts, risks and opportunities, guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and relevant sustainability principles.
Our approach focuses on reducing our environmental footprint, promoting responsible practices, strengthening our positive contributions and addressing adverse impacts wherever they occur. We believe that sustainability is an ongoing process that requires transparency, accountability and continuous improvement. We therefore regularly review our priorities, objectives and actions to ensure that our sustainability efforts remain relevant, measurable and aligned with evolving scientific knowledge, stakeholder expectations and global sustainability ambitions.
We report annually on our sustainability performance, progress and ongoing initiatives. Our 2024 Sustainability Report provides further insight into our work and achievements and can be downloaded here.
