New advances in sustainable peptide synthesis described in recent article by PolyPeptide and RGD co-workers

Nov 9, 2025

RG Discovery is committed to sustainability, increasing our knowledge and decreasing our environmental impact step by step. We always aim to improve our operations to make them as green as possible. Our collaboration with the Swedish site of the PolyPeptide Group in the area of sustainable solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) and manufacturing of peptides, incl. DMF-free chemistry and recycled waste streams, is one key activity aligned with these ambitions.

Thus, we are very happy to be a part of the recent article in Organic Process Research & Development describing a more sustainable SPPS route to ε-Kb GLP-1 analogues (link to article), a class of peptide therapeutics that can be used for treating type 2 diabetes and obesity. Their importance and widespread use necessitate large-scale manufacturing, but until now there have not been any sustainable ways to achieve this. The combined work resulted in the first sustainable SPPS route to ε-Kb GLP-1 analogs, showing that it is possible to manufacture these peptides in an environmentally responsible way.

We are grateful to PolyPeptide for the opportunity to share knowledge and experience together in a way that makes an impact in our daily peptide operations and sustainability work at RG Discovery.
